CHAPTER 4F : ASH SELLS TICKETS
HEADS. ASH SELLS THE TICKETS
CHARLOTTE, ASH and EMMA have 2 tickets to the Resettlement Zone.
Charlotte’s colleague DARREN - who’s obsessed with Charlotte - is at the house. Ash has overheard Darren talking about kissing Charlotte at an office Christmas party.
Darren wants to buy Charlie a ticket - he thinks they currently have none.
Ash wants to prove himself as a man.
Ash has flipped over whether to go and punch Darren, or to go and sell their tickets and save his family.
Heads. Ash knows what he has to do. They can’t go to the Zone, and he needs to prove himself to his wife. It’s time to take control of this situation. He’ll sell the tickets, no one will turn up to take them to the Zone. It’ll prove his point that the whole system is fucked, and he can swoop in with his backup plan. Cornwall. Only he can guarantee his family’s safety, not some corrupt government and their violent lackeys. And NOT Darren. Ash logs on to eBay.
Meanwhile, Charlotte tells a smitten Darren she’ll come with him, and he buys her a ticket for £500,000. She claims she has to say goodbye to her family before they leave and sends Darren on ahead. She is a very convincing actor. But when he goes, we can see her relief from the fear she feels in his presence.
10pm Ash has sold their tickets for £1,000,000. As he completes the sale, a government LEAK appears on his news feed, predicting mass casualties from the crisis. He falters, but it’s too late now.
This path sees our leads trapped in the dire consequences of a split second decision, which the coin made too easy. They will have to confront the consequences of their poor communication. Will they be dragged further into a web of lies, or can they take responsibility for their failings?
10:15pm Charlotte runs upstairs to Ash. He’s glad she’s here. He has a plan.
But Charlie interrupts. She’s fixed it. They have three tickets. She’s off to pack the car. They have to get out of here before Darren realises she isn’t coming with him.
Ash feels sick. He tries to message the ticket buyer. There’s been a mistake. But no response. He heads back to eBay. But the ticket prices have gone up - he can’t afford to buy two back. He frantically loads other ticketing sites, looks up how to access the dark web, while Charlie impatiently hurries him from outside.
10:30pm Ash loses the page he’s on. He refreshes it. The government gateway site pops up. The rest of the Internet is down. Ash is fucked.
If he tells Charlie what he’s done, she’ll kill him. But does he have it in him to turn her against the Zone when she thinks they have three tickets?
He takes out a coin.
