CHAPTER 6BB: THE BEACH

TAILS. CHARLIE WILL STAY AND FIGHT.

CHARLOTTE, ASH and EMMA have 2 tickets to the Resettlement Zone.

After a community meeting, the street has split in two. ALI SAMAAN (10) has been kidnapped from the Dhumals’ house by the opposing group, led by PENNY. PENNY’S CREW wants all of the DHUMALS’ CREW’s TICKETS as ransom.

Penny’s son OSCAR has encouraged their gang to attack the Dhumals’ house. They attempted to kidnap Emma too.

The Dhumals have decided that one of them should leave with Emma, and one should stay and fight to get Ali back.

They flip over who stays.

Tails. Charlie will stay and fight.

Ash pleads with Charlie. There must be another way. But no. They have to do this. She transfers the ticket back to Ash.

Charlie says goodbye to her family, and bundles them into the car.

She has a plan. VI goes to the front of the house with three bracelets.

In the car, Ash is clearly struggling with their ‘decision’.

Vi stalls for time, negotiating with Penny, as Charlie and the SAMAANS break into PENNY’S HOUSE from the back.

As Vi sees her accomplices successfully enter the house, her stalling becomes more urgent.

Charlie and the Samaans search for Ali as Oscar becomes suspicious. He whispers something to his mum DIANA. Vi is visibly stressed.

When Charlie hits a creaky floorboard on the landing, Diana corners them with her HUNTING SHOTGUN. Vi hands over the bracelets and begs Penny to stop her wife and son -

As Ash storms through the front door with a gang of NEIGHBOURS he has re-recruited. (He’s always got on better with them than Charlotte.)

Chaos breaks out. Penny runs with the bracelets, towards the BACK GARDEN. Diana takes Nazim hostage and follows with Oscar. The rest of PENNY’S CREW, shocked at the drama, flee.

Charlie, Ash, Vi and co follow them into the back garden. Penny’s family are beside a shed, and they’ve got extra weapons - Penny’s BOW and Oscar’s CROSSBOW. They begin firing. Ash tells Charlie he’s got a plan and sneaks off.

Diana orders Nazim to login to the bracelets at gunpoint - When she realises the bracelets aren’t the SAMAANS’!

Ash emerges from the hedges behind them, sneaking up on Diana. Diana sees, panics, and shoots Ash in the chest. Charlie sees Ash go down.

CURTIS and a jeep of armed SOLDIERS, outside in the cul-de-sac, hear the shot. A brief flashback to Ash messaging Curtis in Chapter 3D.

Vi is hit by an arrow of Penny’s. Maara flees with Ali. Penny, Diana and Oscar charge forward, surrounding the Dhumals’ gang.

Just as Curtis and the soldiers enter the garden. Seeing Penny’s family armed, the soldiers gun them down.

Charlie runs to injured Ash, furious that he came back. They had a plan! But Ash couldn’t leave her behind. He tells her Emma is at home. Go to her.

Ash dies.

Charlie goes and gets Emma. She’s playing with ASH’S PHONE - returned to life after being in rice. There’s a message from ASH’S PARENTS VIDYA and ANAND: they know that Ash and Charlotte will work out the right thing to do. Remember what Vidya said on Charlie and Ash’s wedding day - Charlie and Ash are a great team. Charlie tries calling Ash’s parents, but they don’t pick up.

Charlotte meets Curtis. Asks if there’s any way of finding out if Ash’s parents made it to the Zone. Curtis doubts it - people over 60 weren’t given tickets. Charlie asks where else they could go; Curtis thinks the only safe place is CENTRAL WALES.

12:30am Charlie tells Vi she truly believes that the Resettlement Zone is the best place for the Samaans, and that they should go, now. Vi asks Charlie where she’s going as she bundles Emma into a car and speeds off.

3am Vi is in a COMMUNITY HALL, trying to rally a group of stressed, scared CITIZENS.

Charlie arrives, leading in Emma, Vidya and Anand. Charlie tells Vi that she has a plan.

7am In the Zone, Curtis finds out the secret to the crisis. He tells SERGEANT JOHNSON they need to send soldiers to Central Wales, to get the word out - they should find a lot of survivors there.

Charlie and Vi’s groups are on a BEACH in ABERYSTWYTH. Ash’s family watches the sea and remembers him.

THE END

What if Charlie had been the one to stay behind with the Samaans? What if Charlie had gone along with Penny’s plan? Can the Dhumals ever stay together? And will we ever know what’s causing the crisis? Start Two Roads again to find out.
