CHARLOTTE, ASH and EMMA have no tickets to the Resettlement Zone. 

 

Penny’s son OSCAR (18), who the Dhumals kidnapped earlier, has led them to CURTIS’S HOUSE, where they have discovered secret government documents.

 

VI has been killed by a mysterious intruder, and Oscar is acting suspiciously. But he believes that they have discovered the location of a downed Russian military plane.

 

Ash and Charlie have flipped over whether to search for the plane, or turn on Oscar.

 

Heads. They’re going to turn on Oscar.

 

Charlie pretends they’re going to search for the plane, but begins to circle behind Oscar. Since they’re working as a team in this road, and Ash is more ready to fight, he catches her drift.

 

They overpower Oscar and tie him up.

 

There’s a noise from below them. The Dhumals head into a cellar where they find Curtis’s wife ALEX tied up.

 

Upstairs, CURTIS’S CHILDREN emerge from the cupboards they’ve been hiding in. Oscar convinces them to untie him. Parched, he has a glug of TAP WATER.

 

The Dhumals remove Alex’s gag and threaten to leave her there unless she answers questions: what’s going on? She resists, but she’s desperate to find her children.

 

One of the BURNER PHONES Ash found rings; Oscar picks it up. It’s a COUNCIL WORKER IN CORNWALL - he’s been trying to reach Curtis! He knows what’s causing the crisis!

 

Alex reveals that Curtis was behind the LEAK - he’s been investigating the crisis, he thinks there’s a cover-up, and he believes the government is letting a lot of people die. Curtis wants to expose the government. The Dhumals untie Alex and they head upstairs.

 

Where they find Oscar at the kitchen table with Curtis’s children and Emma. Oscar’s pouring squash for the kids. Charlie and Ash begin to circle him, but he acts like he’s being kind. Alex gathers the children. Charlie pounces and gets Oscar in a chokehold. He reveals that there’s something in the tap water - and he’s already had some. As Charlie strangles Oscar to death, Ash and Alex take the children away and beg them to say that they didn’t drink the squash. The children shake their heads; the parents are relieved.

 

An hour later, Curtis’s family and the Dhumals are in the back of A JEEP, heading to the Pick Up Point. Alex assures the Dhumals that Curtis will get them all in.

 

Emma’s nose begins to bleed.

 

Charlie sees. She realises what’s happening but somehow manages to pretend that she’s wiping Emma’s nose. But a SOLDIER DRIVING notices. The jeep panics. CURTIS’S SON whispers to Alex that Emma did drink the squash.

 

7am  Vi’s husband DANNY is shocked to find Charlie wandering, confused, down a street. Her face is bloody. He asks: what happened to Vi? What happened to your family? Charlie grows distressed. Danny asks what she last remembers. Charlie tries to think -

Danny pushes her: where’s Ash? Where’s Emma?! But Charlie has no idea who he’s talking about.

 

In the living room of the abandoned house behind them, Ash and Emma lie dead on a sofa, half empty glasses of tap water before them.

 

Charlie suddenly grips Danny’s arms: listen. They have to get to the Resettlement Zone. And to do that, they’ll have to work as one unit. Either they’ll get in together, or they’ll die together. They’re a team.
