CHARLOTTE, ASH and EMMA are in the SWANSEA RESETTLEMENT ZONE, but Ash is there under false pretenses and has been arrested.

 

Charlie is torn over whether to come forward and support her husband. If she does she risks her and Emma’s safety. But she fears what will happen to him if she doesn’t.

 

The coin is tails. Charlie decides to stand up for Ash. 

 

7am Soldiers push back crowds of people at the gates.

 

A crowd of civilians gathers in a SQUARE. The HEAD OF THE ARMY stands on a stage and announces that they have discovered a ‘fugitive in our midst’. An important government figure has been murdered and his identity stolen. The culprit has been found. A figure is led out with a bag on his head.

 

The punishment for this crime is clear. An eye for an eye. The fugitive will be executed. 

 

The bag is removed. BLAKE stands there.

 

FLASHBACK: earlier that morning. JOHNSON finds Blake and asks that he accompany him to his office. The HEAD OF THE ARMY is waiting with Ash and Charlie. Charlie confirms that Blake is the man who killed MARK NEWMAN, his parents, and the HELPFUL SOLDIER.

 

In the PRESENT, Ash is in the crowd before the gallows, holding Emma.

 

In the FLASHBACK, a furious Blake bursts forward, and injects Charlotte with the SYRINGE. She looks confused. 

 

In the PRESENT, Blake struggles - he did everything for them, and they were going to let him die out there! He had to do what he did!

 

In the FLASHBACK, shocked soldiers lead Charlotte away. Past Emma waiting outside, who screams for her mother. Charlie fights against them - what’s going on?

 

A WOMAN bustles into the crowd beside Ash, to tell her HUSBAND that the government has discovered what’s causing the crisis, they’re going to announce it soon. But they’ll survive this!

 

In the FLASHBACK, Charlie is led into a medical room. Less responsive. The door closed on her by PPE-ed medical staff.

 

Ash walks away, still carrying Emma. Over his shoulder she waves at the stage as we hear a shot.

 

Ash reaches a tent, with two cots inside. He lies down on one with Emma, and goes to sleep. Emma lies awake.
